With minimal backyard space, this uniquely versitile deck designed and constructed by iBlitz serves as broard deck space for sun chairs and or coffee table and chairs, and has a built in curved deck deck chair which doubles back as a bench chair or drinks shelf from the rear.
An exisiting pine deck with broken and rotten deck boards was stripped down to the bearers. New joists and extensions on the bearers to make the surface area a little larger, then cladded off with Yellow Stringybark decking timbers.
With only 2 metres from the side of the house to the boundary fence you might not think you could achive much, but we designed and built this multi height deck with in-built curved decking screen and made an entirely new area down the side of this Prahran house.
No as easy as it may seem, the challenge here was to built a deck infill over an exisiting garden bed, not disturb the roots of the mature maple tree, be structually sound for a vehicle to set foot on, and have rot resistance due to the close proximity to the ground. The answer, 38mm thick ironbark deck boards over and ironbark substructure.
